Use your voice to do more on your TV. Press the Google Assistant button and ask Google to search for the latest blockbuster, stream shows or open multiplayer games. Have it dim the lights by connecting smart home devices. Or ask it questions and see the answers right on your TV. Cue the latest episode, pick up where you left off or jump to a new show in no time. Even find music, games and YouTube videos—all on your customizable home screen.
Get all the top apps and games right on your TV. Unfortunately, Google took some issues with having an integrated browser on Android TV and this was the best workaround for that. It gives you instructions on how to download the browser plugin by going to browser. If we were installing anything that required special permissions, it would also allow us to approve or deny those here. Click Done to return to the app. Yes…I know I literally just saw a message that told me the app was installed, but this still threw me off when I saw it the first time.
I recommend Deleting the APK file to save space on your device. However, if you want to keep it for whatever reason, click Done to return to the main menu. Navigating is super-easy. What I love is that you can navigate around without needing to change your remote to air-mouse mode — if you even have an air-mouse. The red circle that you can see in this image under the word Accessibility in the title is your cursor.
You can use the D-pad to navigate around the screen, up to the search bar or to the menu in the top-right corner. The menu options are also pretty basic.
The most useful option is adding a webpage to your Favorites so you can return to it easily. Unsurprisingly, the Favorites tab on the side menu takes you a list of your web page favorites. Because the browser is so lean, this is a great way to still give you that feature without needing to build it into the browser itself.
If you have a very specific file structure that you use, where you absolutely have to have your files saved in a specific directory, then you can change it here. I recommend leaving this checked as well. Keeping it checked will make the overall experience easier and more seamless. A Google search is performed if the text entered contains a space or does not contain a period.
All other text is treated as a URL, just like before. It still loads Google search results on google. If you prefer to use a standard Google search, you can always still just load google. I do also want to note that Google collects stats for these searches, which I can view, and my server is relaying these searches to Google, so there are standard server logs being created for these searches.
If you are not comfortable with that, you are more than welcome to just load google. This is because I recently switched my app listing on Google Play, so if you are using the old listing, it will not receive this update. Nice addition Elias.
