As the first waves of injured bystanders, guardsmen, and rioters arrived at hospitals, it became apparent that a deadly new disease had been unleashed on the population. Whether the virus was naturally occurring or an escaped lab experiment, Cade hadn't a clue and wasn't especially concerned until he learned of its unprecedented virulence, unusual method of transference, and the fact that, according to the news, it brought the newly dead back to life, semi-mindless, and with an insatiable desire to feed on the flesh of the living.
After decades of planning, the contagion was unleashed, and overnight hundreds of millions died and came back as rampaging, undead monsters. The living that had been lucky enough to survive the first day of carnage, lucky enough to be in the right place, and lucky enough that some of them had the skills to survive soon found out there was much more to worry about than just zombies. As the zombie plague rages, they face a terrifying fight for survival. They soon learn, however, that the walking dead are not the only monsters. The rise of the living dead may be one of the most frequently explored apocalypse scenarios by modern authors, and with good reason.
A great zombie audiobook combines visceral action, the distress of watching the dead rise, and the inexorability of the human will to survive. There are almost as many titles on the subject as there are zombies in each work, so it can be difficult to know where to start.
Not too shabby. Smart main character, for a 16 year old. Didn't expect the buggary 5 minutes in, but that didn't form a pattern. Step 1 for being a zombie apocalypse survivor: Be a prepper. Step 2: Hole up in your isolated farm. Step 3: Don't go into Nashville I bought the book, months ago but was not that excited to listen. Think I was put off by the cover and the reviews.
It is not a bad book, and if the sequels go on sale, I will read on. Kid is a sophomore in High School, has crush on girl, Jock steals girl away from him, and than beats him up. This has a today twist of the beating going viral on U-tube. We are a couple of hours into the book before any Zombies appear. About once every other hour a Zombie wonders on to the scene, as if the writer went , Oh ya, this is called Zombie Rules.
The rules are everything you already know about Zombies if you have read one other Zombie book. While I enjoyed the book, I had problems with the main character being a teenager and all these older men make him their leader. The prepper is an older man who magically makes Zach his friend, yet Zach is the one with the mature head on his shoulder and the one that solves all problems.
The Zombies, were the same old Zombies and rarely even made an appearance. The kid has no raging hormones and kisses his girlfriend on the head a lot. The rules are like, Thanks Captain Obvious. There also seems to be a preoccupation with bodily functions. I know we all fart, relieve are bowels, take a leak and girls have menstrual periods and use tampons, but not sure why we constantly have to be reminded about it.
In most of my reviews I like to make a comment about the narrator. It was not until I got to the right now, that I realized that someone read the book to me. You can't get better than that.
Where to begin? The story is 'apocalypse by the numbers'. Characters are so thin that if they turned sideways they'd vanish. The writing varies in quality from painful to facepalm and stops at all points in between. The dialogue especially is staggeringly bad. Our hero, a teenager, knows absolutely everything about everything astrology, history, farming, tactics and on and on , and is as adept at showing up teachers with his scholarly skills as he is grizzled old veterans with his planning and military acumen.
I cannot think of a single redeeming feature about this, except that the narrator does a creditable job which the material. Women are useless in the apocalypse it seems. At one point a character trades honey for used women's underwear.
No, I'm not making this up but Iam getting miserable trying to review this. Our main protagonist, Zack, is only 16 years old but comes across much older and wiser for his age. Sure, they ran into zombies and living thieves on occasion, fighting to protect themselves and what they had - at times, it appeared like there was no way Some do! Zombie Rules is entertaining, engaging and a roller coaster ride for readers once you get started.
I do have some criticism about the author, David Achord's writing style. There aren't many typos, but extra words exist throughout the book - as if an editor forgot to delete them after making corrections. Also, I found myself stopping on occasion because something the author wrote raised a flag, kind of like, 'wait a minute, didn't he say something different earlier'?
I love the old beekeeper - reminds me of Yoda in the Star Wars series. The ending left me deflated when it suddenly stopped! And the two chapter preview sample afterwards had nothing to do with the story I just finished - not offering any hints as to how the story continues. I would have guessed that any author who leaves readers hanging like that SHOULD have included something to satisfy readers and not move them to an entirety different story that he published.
Now after reading the reviews I find there are two more books on Amazon for this continuing story. You have me hooked David, and I did purchase the next two Kindle books to see how the story progresses. Publisher: Tantor Audio. Released: Dec 1, Format: Audiobook. There has been a major upheaval at Mount Weather. The president has been assassinated. If that wasn't bad enough, Chinese soldiers have been discovered on American soil and the zeds, already an ever present danger, are continuing to show signs of cognition and teamwork. The motives of both are unknown but do not bode well for the survivors. Horror Fiction. About the author DA. Who the Hell is That?
